The Bengali cinema megastar Dev and lady superstar Subhashree Ganguly are all set to release their 7th film, DeSu7, this Puja. The film is special in many ways. It marks the reunion of Dev and Subhashree after 10 years; the last film they acted in together was Dhumketu in 2015, which was delayed for nearly a decade due to a creative and financial fallout between its co-producers, Dev and Rana Sarkar, and later released in August 2025. They are all set to turn up the heat for this Durga Puja release with their sizzling chemistry.
The film DeSu7 is crafted for the audience's love for this pair. It is the first time in Bengali cinema that a pair has returned together to do a movie after a decade without a single appearance together, having built magnificent careers as individuals in the meantime. Dev and Subhashree did not know that there is a generation in their early and mid-twenties who grew up watching their songs and movies, and that they were waiting for their reunion until they saw the overwhelming fan turnout and atmosphere at Nazrul Mancha during the Dhumketu trailer launch.
DeSu7 also marks Dev's official directorial debut. Anirban Bhattacharya plays a crucial role in DeSu7, marking a high-profile return to the silver screen. His casting became a major talking point in Tollywood, as Dev fiercely stood by him and ensured his inclusion in the project despite industry-wide controversies and political tensions surrounding work bans. Praising Anirban's immense talent, Dev explicitly championed his comeback, solidifying his presence as one of the primary pillars of this high-octane directorial venture.
The film's first look features Dev and Subhashree Ganguly sharing an intimate embrace while standing on top of an overturned vehicle in the middle of a damaged, smoke-filled street. The first official track from DeSu7 was released yesterday and is receiving immense love. Set against the picturesque, winding roads of Ladakh, the track brings back the classic, high-voltage romance and nostalgia of the "Deshu" pairing, reminiscent of blockbusters like Challenge and Paran Jaaye Joliya Re. With the commercially low phase in Bengali cinema poised to bounce back through the reunion of Dev and Subhashree, the film carries the highest expectations.
