New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi is going to be new Prime Minister of India today on 4th June 2024 !
Born into the illustrious family of prime Ministers and politicians, Gandhi spent his early childhood between Delhi and Dehradun and stayed away from the public sphere for much of his childhood and early youth. He received primary education in New Delhi and then attended the elite all-boys' boarding The Doon School in Dehradun. However, due to security concerns, he was later home-schooled. Gandhi commenced his undergraduate degree at St. Stephen's College before moving to Harvard University.
His great grand father was Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru the first prime minister of Independent India. His grand mother was the first lady prime minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi. His father was 6th prime minister of our country Mr. Rajiv Gandhi. As the grandson of former prime minister Indira Gandhi, his lineage is deeply rooted in Indian political history.
It has been said Rajiv Gandhi and his family was far away from politics. A tragedy changed everything. Indira Gandhi's younger son Sanjay Gandhi was widely expected to succeed his mother as head of the Indian National Congress and Prime Minister of India, but following his early death in a plane crash, his elder brother Rajiv became their mother's political heir and succeeded her as Prime Minister of India and President of the party after her assassination. On 23 June 1980, Rajiv's younger brother Sanjay Gandhi died unexpectedly in an aeroplane crash. At that time, Rajiv Gandhi was in London as part of his foreign tour. Hearing the news, he returned to Delhi and cremated Sanjay's body.As per Agarwal, in the week following Sanjay's death, Shankaracharya Swami Shri Swaroopanand, a saint from Badrinath, visited the family's house to offer his condolences. He advised Rajiv not to fly aeroplanes and instead "dedicate himself to the service of the nation". Later on which created rift between Sanjay Gandhi's family and Rajiv Gandhi's family. Today both Sanjay Gandhi's wife Maneka Gandhi and son Varun Gandhi is members of parliament from BJP's seat.
On 31 October 1984, the prime minister, Rajiv Gandhi's mother, Indira Gandhi, was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguards, which led to violent riots against Sikhs.
Unfortunately Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in 1991 while promting for upcoming election in Tamil Nadu .
In March 2004, Gandhi announced his entry into politics by declaring that he would contest the 14th general elections from his father's former constituency of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh for the Lok Sabha, India's lower house of parliament. His mother had held the seat until she transferred to the neighboring constituency of Raebareli.
In 2004 Rahul Gandhi gave up the position on prime minister for security purpose. After the 2004 general elections, the Indian National Congress ended the incumbent National Democratic Alliance (NDA) tenure by becoming the political party with the single largest number of seats in the Lok Sabha. It formed United Progressive Alliance (UPA) with allies and staked claim to form government. In a surprise move, Chairperson Sonia Gandhi declared Manmohan Singh, a technocrat, as the UPA candidate for the prime ministership.
Now it is the matter of hours to find out will he become 15th prime minister of India.
